Spain-La Liga: Real Madrid tonked Espanyol 3-0 away at the host’s new stadium thanks to goals from Granero, Guti and Ronaldo as Manuel Pellegrini rested one or two key players but came up trumps in a win which maintain’s Real’s 100 per cent record.
Ironically it was Granero (pictured), a former Real youth team player who the club had to buy back from Getafe, who got the most eye-catching of the goals.
Barcelona also won on the road at Getafe. Andres Iniesta returned for the Catalans and had a hand in sparking a 2-0 win, with Ibrahimovic and Messi the scorers. Valencia also won at Valladolid, hardly breaking sweat in a 4-2 rout.
England – Premier League: Manchester United burst Tottenham’s early season bubble by winning at White Haart Lane by 3-1 although Spurs had taken an early lead with Jermaine Defoe.
Arsenal went down 4-2 away at Man City with the hosts’ striker Emmanuel Adebayor scoring against his old club, stamping on Robin VAn Persie’s head and running the length of the pitch to celebrate his goal in front of the fans who used to idolise him. The FA are likely to throw the book at him.
There were also relatively comfortable wins for both Liverpool and Chelsea.
Italy- Serie A: Juventus kept up their impressive start with a 2-0 win away at Lazio and defending champions Inter won 2-0 at home to Parma thanks to goals form new signings Samuel Eto’o and Diego Milito.
AC Milan could only draw 0-0 away at Livorno in a result which heaps pressure on rookie new coach Leonardo.
Elsewhere in Germany’s Bundesliga Bayern Munich obliterated Dortmund 5-1 away courtesy of an eye-catching performance from Franck Ribery, who seems to have found renewed love for coach Louis Van Gaal. Champions Wolfsburg lost at home 3-2 to Bayer Leverkusen.
In France’s Ligue 1 Bordeaux beat Grenoble 1-0 at home while Monaco beat PSG at home and Lyon scraped a 1-0 victory while hosting Lorient.
Finally, in Portugal’s Liga Sagres Belenenses went down 4-0 at home to Benfica while Porto and Sporting both chalked up wins.
