The wait is over

The mind need suffer no longer. The big kick off in Europe is upon us.
We already know plenty about the new season. For example, kits this year are truly horrible and have shown a trend of leaning back to the baggy.
Further to my assessment of the likes of Chelsea’s new garb, spare a moment of your time to dry heave at the meaningless yellow in Tottenham’s kit, the pointless black stripe on Manchester United’s new jersey and the mess of swishes and logos that makes up Deportivo’s strip.
Many questions must be answered – can Manchester United seal a fourth title in a row even without Cristiano Ronaldo? Will Real Madrid be able to gel all that overpriced talent into a team, including Kaka and Ronaldo (pictured above)? Can Manchester City gel all that overpriced talent into even a plausible formation?
In Germany it will be fascinating to see how Wolfsburg defend their title against a potentially resurgent Bayern. In Italy, can the arrival of Diego finally end Juve’s dark ages?
We’ve also come through one of the most financially ridiculous summers of all time and English clubs may have to face up to increased competition in the Champions league from this year.
Many British sides have categorically failed to tempt big stars from Italy, Spain and elsewhere, possibly thanks to the 50 per cent tax rate – will we see the beginnings of a power shift?
