RIP Dani Jarque

Two years after the death of Sevilla’s Antonio Puerta, Spain is again talking of the sudden and tragic death of a young footballer.
Espanyol captain Dani Jarque died last week after he collapsed following a training session while in pre-season in Italy.
He apparently joins the likes of Marc-Vivien Foe, the Cameroon international, and Motherwell midfielder Phil O’Donnell to have suddenly suffered heart failure.
With all the medical expertise employed by modern clubs, it seems some problems still slip the net.
Jarque was a one-club man who spent his entire career at Espanyol and amassed more than 250 appearances. A commanding and intelligent centre-back, he will be greatly missed by Espanyol fans. Suddenly the impending start of La Liga doesn’t quite seem so important.
