The weekend round-up

England: There’s no mp3 recording yet of the sound of me eating my hat.
Everton surprised everyone, including me, in the FA Cup final on Saturday by not only scoring in 90 minutes but scoring the quickest FA Cup final goal in history. However after Saha’s 25-second strike it was largely business as usual as a functional and powerful Chelsea eased into the game to win 2-1 with goals from first Drogba and then Frank Lampard.
Spain – La Liga: With first and second decided, it fell to relegation and Champions League qualification to provide the entertainment in Spain.
And a cracking final day it proved as Real Betis were shocked by the drop after Osasuna beat Real Madrid 2-1 at home and other results went against them. The Andalucian side, probably one of the six or seven biggest clubs in Spain in terms of support and cash, join Recreativo and Numanica in the second tier next year.
Italy – Serie A: The bottom half of the league provided all the entertainment on the final day with Bologna managing to stay up with a 3-1 win over Catania, while Torino head down to Serie B after losing 3-2 away to Roma. AC Milan clinched Champions League qualification with a 2-0 away win at Fiorentina. Reggina and Lecce are the other two clubs who were already relegated.
Elsewhere the Turkish league saw Besiktas seal the title with a 2-1 away win at Denizlispor while Sivasspor, who were in second, went down 2-1 away at Galatasaray.
A mention as well for the French league, which saw Bordeaux win its first title since 1999. The club, managed by former France international defender Laurent Blanc, knocked Lyon off their perch with a 1-0 win away to Caen.
The Brazilian national league saw Internacional beat beat Avai 2 – 1 and Corinthians went down 3-1 at Santos. Gremio lost 1 – 0 away at Vitoria.
