The weekend round-up

Spain – La Liga: Barcelona sealed the title without kicking a ball after Real Madrid lost 3-2 away to Villareal on Saturday.
The new champions fielded a weakened side the next day away at Mallorca. A slightly odd game saw the visitors lose 2-1 as Samuel Eto’o (pictured), who is chasing the top scorer ‘Pichichi’ trophy, notched his side’s only goal but missed a host of chances including a last-minute penalty which would have earned his side a point.
England – Premier League: Manchester United clinched their third title in a row with a somewhat low-key 0-0 draw with Arsenal. It was a big blow to Liverpool, who beat West Brom 2-0 away and in doing so relegated the West Midlands side. However the second place finished assured to the Merseyside team is only their second in 19 years.
Middlesbrough are all but down having drawn 1-1 at home to Aston Villa. Newcastle lost 1-0 at home to Fulham and have to hope results go their way and send down Hull, one place above them, on the final day.
Italy – Serie A: Inter were also crowned champions after beating Siena 3-0 at home. Que a fresh round of speculation about the future of manager Jose Mourinho, who has frequently said he would like to return to England in the future.
Elsewhere in Germany Wolfsburg gained the advantage by winning 5-0 away to Hannover as second-placed Bayern could only draw 2-2 away at Hoffenheim. Wolfsburg’s lead is two points with one game to go.
Turkey’s title race saw Besiktas maintain their two – point lead as second place Sivasspor also won.
In Brazil, the two-game old Campeonato saw defending champions Sao Paulo and likely contenders Corinthians both draw their games. Internacional overcame Palmeiras 2-0.
