The weekend preview

Spain – La Liga: All eyes will be on the Mestalla in Valencia (pictured) on Saturday night. If the home team beat Real Madrid, and Barcelona overcome Villareal at the Camp Nou on Sunday, the Catalans will be champions.
At the other end of La Liga Sporting Gijon, in 18th, are away to mid-table Almeria on Sunday and bottom club Numancia travel to Valladolid on the same day. Recreativo, in 19th and also sweating, are at home to Deportivo and will be looking for all three points as a minimum requirement.
England – Premier League: Second-placed Liverpool need all three points away to West Ham on Saturday afternoon to maintain even a slim chance of pipping Manchester United to the title. United are at home to rivals Manchester City in a Sunday derby which is one of the few remaining banana skins for them on the route to the title.
Down at the bottom Monday night sees 18th play 19th in Newcastle versus Middlesbrough. A draw is not much use to either side – whoever wins could aim to catch Hull in 17th on 34 points and so hope to stay up. The loser would be all but down.
Italy – Serie A: Champions elect Inter are away to Chievo on Sunday while AC Milan and Juventus face each other later the same day. Both of these clubs are now effectively battling for second place.
The game of the weekend for Italian football is at the bottom of the league – Torino face Bologna on Sunday in a fixture similar to the Premier League’s Newcastle – Boro clash.
Elsewhere the German league is neatly poised with Wolfsburg still only three points ahead of Bayern at the top. Wolfsburg are off to Stuttgart on Saturday and Bayern go away to struggling Cottbus.
In Portugal FC Porto can all but wrap up the title by beating Nacional on Sunday at home and in Turkey the most exciting league run-in on the continent sees 1st place Sivasspor (60 points) host Istanbul BB and Besiktas in 2nd (59 points) are off to Ankaraspor.
