As Spain’s La Liga gears up for a crunch series of matches, everyone should really be talking about how remarkable it is that Real Madrid are still in it, but instead more people are interested in a bizarre and unprovoked piece of brutality.

Real beat Getafe 3-2 at home on Tuesday night thanks to an injury time strike from Gonzalo Higuian and so kept themselves in the race with six games remaining.

The Argentine’s effort was all the more remarkable given Real only had ten men at the time after centre back Pepe had been sent off for kicking Getafe striker Francisco Casquero.

While he was on the floor. Twice. In front of the referee.

Pepe seemed to lose it totally after giving aaway a penalty for pushing Casquero, with the score at the time 2-2.

Casquero then missed the penalty after he stupidly tried to lob Real ‘keeper Casillas with the spot kick. Then Higuain struck to polish the turd that was a good night for Real’s points tally, and a terrible one for Pepe’s image. He looks set to miss most of the remaining games.

He did go down a bit easily but if you’re going to get a red card you might as well make it worth it.
