Goals, gasps, and socks

Let’s forget the English Premier League title for a moment, which again looks very much like it’s going to Manchester United after Liverpool failed to beat Arsenal tonight in a thrilling 4 – 4 draw.
Let’s also forget about paltry punishments for racist chanting in Italy and even cast aside concerns about Ukrainian football’s connections with organised crime.
Instead let’s cast our eyes to the ankles of Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, who while on the bench at Anfield tonight could be seen sporting a very natty pair of novelty socks.
To me they look like a gift pack job – maybe from a relative and featuring a cartoon figure. All the better for the fact he was making feverish tactical notes just as the Sky Sports cameras caught a raised trouser leg and a flash of knitted ankle attire.
The game itself was the best the Premier League has seen this season and featured four goals from Arsenal’s Andrey Arshavin, plus a gala performance from reds striker Fernando Torres.
Also tonight, in Spain, Real Madrid kept themselves in with a La Liga title shout after beating Getafe 3 – 2 thanks to an injury time goal from Gonzalo Higuian.
But back to those socks – if anyone knows exactly what’s on them, or even where he got them, please add a comment. Please.
